The Curious League of Detective and Thieves: Egypt’s Fire is a mystery about an orphan named John Boarhog who lives in a museum. He is framed for stealing a billion-dollar ruby and is forced to join up with the world’s greatest detective to find the real thief, a criminal mastermind only known as The Mauve Moth.
When I set out writing Egypt’s Fire, I wanted to write a book perfect for the reluctant reader, because I was one. I wrote a book for kids who are trying to figure out their place in the world, because we all were that kid. I wrote a book filled with humor to combat the very serious events that our children face today, because we can’t afford to lose the ability to laugh. And I wrote this book because I want to ignite the curiosity of a new generation.
Egypt’s Fire is a zany, crazy, over-the-top mystery that the entire family can enjoy. It’s a story that older kids can read by themselves, younger kids can have read to them, and parents stuck in the car on a family trip can listen to and not want to drive off a cliff.
My hope is that somewhere there is a child, with this book in hand, who is laughing, learning, and falling in love with reading.
